Lori Elliott-Bartle took a circuitous route to art-making through journalism and public relations. Since 2008 she’s been painting full time in her studio at the Hot Shops Art Center. Lori is inspired by big skies and open landscapes. She simplifies shapes, saturates them with color and highlights them with contrast. Her newest works focus abstractly on the prairie. She takes a daily look at the patch of big bluestem growing in her small, urban front yard. This graceful, resilient plant reminds her of the subtle changes in color, texture and line that Nebraska’s prairie landscapes provide.
